Installs and Moving Your License¶
Each license runs one TradeServer at a time. The computer running it is called an install.
How an install is registered¶
The first time TradeServer starts with your license key, it registers itself with your account and saves its identity in a file called install.json, in the same folder as settings.env. From then on, every restart of that computer is the same install.
You can see the install holding each license at haasonline.com/account/licenses: the computer name, operating system, TradeServer version, when it was last seen, and a Running badge while it is online.
Starting a second TradeServer on the same license¶
If another computer is already running TradeServer with your license, the new one does not start trading. Its console shows:
This license is in use by <computer name>, last seen <time> UTC. Trying again every 2 minutes. To move the license, stop that TradeServer or release it at haasonline.com/account/licenses.
It keeps checking every 2 minutes and starts by itself as soon as the license is free.
Tip
To run more than one TradeServer at the same time, each one needs its own license.
Moving your license to a new computer¶
Pick one of these:
- Stop the old TradeServer, then start the new one. A TradeServer that shuts down normally frees the license right away. If the old one crashed or lost its internet connection instead, the license frees up within 5 minutes, and the new one takes it on its next check (every 2 minutes), so allow up to about 7 minutes.
- Release the old install at haasonline.com/account/licenses with the Release button. Use this when the old computer is lost, broken, or still running somewhere you cannot reach. The old install stops shortly after, and the next TradeServer you start with the license takes it.
Your bots, scripts and settings live in the TradeServer database, not in the license. To bring them along, make a backup on the old computer and import it on the new one.
After an install is released¶
A released install stops connecting for good. Its console shows:
This TradeServer install was released from your account and has stopped connecting. To use it again, delete install.json next to settings.env and restart.
install.json is in the same folder as settings.env. To use that computer again, stop TradeServer, delete install.json and start it. It registers as a new install, and takes the license if no other install is running.
Good to know¶
- Reinstalling on the same computer: if you remove the TradeServer folder (including
install.json), the next start registers a new install and takes the license, as long as the old TradeServer was stopped first. - Do not copy
install.jsonto another computer. Every computer should register on its own. A copied file is refused while the original is running. - Restoring a backup on the same computer is fine; the database backup does not contain
install.json.
